Pygmalion

My heart lies long and black in its cage
and my skin is stone

I reach to touch your hand
warm and alive
but how can you feel the fingers of a ghost?

If you knew how still I waited
you’d press me to your body
and I’d hear your blood surge

your sweat would be my catalyst
and all my molecules, chiselled free
turn cartwheels of delight
