Pearl

Motionless
the white skin
on the lake
clusters to
the island;
holds close its
pearl embrace
around the
triple bands:
long pale reeds
purple brush
hazy trees,
dark and bare --
all belong
to water;
without which
clay would be unjoined
harsh crows fade
to leave blank skies uncindered
and winter’s bleach be left
bereft, unbearable.
