Austenitic and iron duplex steel is made by adding more chromium, tungsten, silicon elements, or reducing the carbon content on the basis of 18-8 austenitic stainless steel. Generally, the proportion of less phase is also above 30%. Its yield strength is about twice that of austenitic stainless steel, it has good weldability, high toughness, and a lower tendency for stress corrosion, intergranular corrosion, and welding hot cracking compared to austenitic steel. It has the common advantages of austenitic steel and ferritic steel, and has developed rapidly.
A type of duplex stainless steel with a pitting corrosion resistance index PRE greater than 40 is usually referred to as super duplex stainless steel (PRE=% Cr+3.3% Mo+16% N).
